about

For Spring Break, my family and I headed to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The beautiful weather, ocean, and lack of homework inspired me to write some songs. Songs 4, 5, and 7 were all inspired by this wonderful vacation.

"Smile (5)" is easily one of my most vulnerable songs lyrically. I attempted to display my frustration with not only myself and my inward struggles, but also that against society and how culture tells us as people to respond to difficulties and shortcomings in our lives. This song finds great inspiration from Proverbs written in the Bible.

Also the "(5)" is sort of a silly reminder for me that I sat down to write this song, my dad walked in and told me that we'd be leaving for dinner in 5 minutes... Dinner was good, thanks for asking ;)

lyrics

Letting go of discipline
Folly is my only friend
She's the secret that nobody must know

Hurting, waiting for an end
To this pain of nothingness
Cause all of me right now is just pretend

Put on a smile, hold on to it
There will be better times they say to say goodbye
Put on a smile, I can't forget
Hypocrisy, it seems to me to be okay
This is not the end

Time and time, time again
I realize that I can't pretend
These regrets will ever fade away

And I'm starting to feel
That this isn't real
That maybe, possibly this is the end

Put on a smile, hold on to it
There will be better times they say to say goodbye
Put on a smile, I can't forget
Hypocrisy, it seems to me to be okay

Is this end of all my hopes and dreams
And all it seems to be to me
To you it's true, I don't know what to do
Or who to choose
To lose myself, to find myself
To find myself in you
I choose to lose myself, to find myself
To find myself in you
